The Women’s Research Initiative on HIV/AIDS is committed to creating expedience and efficiency in research about HIV disease in women by producing a coordinated effort across disciplines and organizations. The WRI brings together more than 75 of the nation’s most esteemed thought leaders focused on women and HIV including academic, community and private practice clinicians, research scientists from academic, government, and pharmaceutical industry settings, HIV-positive women, and representatives of advocacy organizations. Since 2003, the WRI has focused on achieving one important objective – facilitating more, better, and faster research on HIV disease in women.

The Women’s Research Initiative was launched in 2003 by the Well Project in an effort help overcome the barrier posed by inadequate research on women. The WRI annual meeting is specifically curated to expand thinking about HIV research and each year highlights the most critical recent research findings in an effort to facilitate dialogue that identifies and addresses gaps in research on women and HIV.
