IN THE HIV CLOSET IT SEEMS LIKE MANY OF US ARE IN THE HIV CLOSET . I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW WE JUST TALK AND DON'T TAKE ACTION . AS A COMMUNITY DON'T STAND UP FOR OURSELVES OR OTHERS THIS IS NOT THE ACTIONS OF A TRUE ADVOCATE . SORRY TO SAY . PART OF IT IS BACKING EACH OTHER UP THIS DOES NOT HELP IN ANY SHAPE OR FORM IT MAKES YOU FEEL ALONE .IF IT BE ON YOUR PERSONAL PAGE OR IN A GROUP SETTING .
We all started somewhere
Hi tfreshour68, I can honestly say that I never gave HIV advocacy a thought when I learned my diagnosis. I remember a promise I made to God the night I learned my status. Still, there was so much shame and remorse at having a positive status that I couldn't get into activism. Almost two years into my diagnosis, I was asked to show up at a place in D.C. and speak about my experience. I said OK and that was that. What surprised me was how many people were interested in what I had to say. You'd be surprised what your contribution is simply by opening up and admitting you don't talk about. Others may feel like you do. I know that at one time, I did. So no judgment sis because we all started somewhere.
