Convenient options for treating HIV infection got a boost today as the new all-in-one pill called Triumeq was approved by the FDA. Triumeq is a full HIV regimen made up of the three drugs dolutegravir (Tivicay), abacavir (Ziagen) and lamivudine (Epivir). Dolutegravir is an integrase inhibitor while the other two drugs are NRTIs, also available as Epzicom. Four full-regimen pills are now available as HIV treatment: Triumeq, Stribild, Complera and Atripla.
This is the first all-in-one HIV pill approved by the FDA without Truvada (tenofovir/emtricitabine), which makes it a new choice for those with impaired kidney function. Continue reading…
