Translators without Borders, a US 501(c) 3 non-profit with an operations center in Kenya, was founded in 1993 to provide professional, high-quality translations to non-profit organizations.
In 2011, the organization started a virtual platform to better coordinate these resources, and in the last 6 years it has increased its translation capabilities from just a few languages to more than 190 language pairs. TWB currently works with more than 3,700 translators and have translated more than 37 million words as part of humanitarian crisis response, and health and education services.
The organization envisions a world in which information knows no language barriers, advocating globally for language and translation as important tools for humanitarian effectiveness.
By maintaining a global network of professional translators and offering other languages services, TWB helps non-profit organizations overcome communication barriers, increasing access to critical information and services while fostering a climate of understanding, respect and dignity in times of crisis and great need.
TWB also works to build language translation capacity at a local level, having provided basic translator training to over 250 trainees in their translator training center.
The organization’s latest Words of Relief crisis activations for the European Refugees, the Ebola crisis and Nepal earthquake have won widespread praise from the international community.
