What happened to the American Dream?

Submitted on May 23, 2016 by  Christina.Carta

The Founding Fathers put into law the revolutionary idea that each person's desire to pursue happiness was not just self-indulgence, but a part of what drives ambition and creativity. Not only stating, but also legally protecting, these values, the Founding Fathers set up a very attractive society for those who aspire to a better life for themselves. What are we teaching our children in school? This is not reality!

At first, the Declaration only extended the Dream to white property-owners. However, the idea of inalienable rights was so powerful that laws were added to extend these rights to slaves, women and non-property owners. In this way, the American Dream changed the course of America itself. Indeed it has over the years. My opinion - there is no American Dream anymore. America makes it hard for anyone even its own natural born citizens to gain reality of their dreams they long for. What is the discrimination act? This is supposed to protect people no matter what age, race, color, gender, religion or disability they may have. They should just do away with this because so many people are stigmatized and discriminated against. Harassment is when you are subjected to unwanted behavior that makes you feel intimidated, that creates a hostile environment. Truly what laws do we have that protect us? I was reading an article, kids allowed to carry mace to protect themselves from others who are transgender in bathrooms. Sometimes I am truly ashamed to say I am from here in the United States. We as adults are supposed to set good examples to our children. There is much unjustified hatred in the world. But the United States of America is supposed to be full of hope and dreams. We, as a Nation, should stop being so childish and be the strong and mature Country we are.

HIV, just like any other infectious disease, is manageable. Still no Cure, but some still are being Criminalized against. Why Just HIV? There are much worse things in this world than HIV! HIV isn’t a crime; it is a virus that with treatment is very controllable. I have never heard of anyone going to jail for not disclosing Hepatitis or another Infectious Disease. In some areas people living with HIV or AIDS have to register just like a sex offender. Come on world, HIV is not a Crime!
