Amber Sophus, PhD (she/her) is an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio Kate Marmion School of Public Health and a Visiting Research Faculty member at Yale University's Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS. She is a social and behavioral scientist whose work examines the behavioral, structural, and cultural factors shaping sexual health decision-making, engagement in HIV/STI prevention, and access to bio-behavioral strategies such as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), predominantly among Black women living in the southern US. Through her work, Dr. Sophus aims to develop and implement multi-level, evidence-based strategies that reduce HIV-related disparities; expand access to inclusive, stigma-free sexual health resources; and center both sexual health and pleasure.
