The HIV Is Not a Crime National Training Academy (HINAC) is a biennial gathering that brings together people living with HIV (PLHIV), HIV policy leaders, and other stakeholders, primarily from the U.S. The event focuses on educating and empowering advocates while centering PLHIV leadership to combat HIV criminalization, mass incarceration, racism, and social injustice.
HINAC prioritizes the intentional and active involvement of community activists and PLHIV networks, aligning with broader efforts to end the disproportionate policing and incarceration of marginalized communities, including communities of color, transgender and non-binary individuals, sex workers, and substance users.
The training academy ensures that grassroots advocacy and mobilization efforts are grounded in the latest science and research, supported by effective messaging, and guided by strategic expertise from experienced activists, public health experts, and legal and policy professionals.
