Kate Powis, MD is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School, a practicing internist and pediatrician at Massachusetts General Hospital, and a Research Associate at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. For nearly 20 years, her research has focused on improving the health and well-being of women living with HIV and their children, including children born HIV-free following perinatal HIV exposure. She leads NIH-funded research in the United States and across southern Africa.

Since 2024, Dr. Powis has served as Co-Chair of the Inter-CFAR Collaboration on HIV Research in Women Working Group, which brings together researchers, clinicians, community members, and NIH partners to advance research, policy, and clinical care for women living with or at risk for HIV. She also leads an international annual forum on children and adolescents with perinatal HIV exposure in partnership with WHO, UNICEF, NICHD, PATA, and other global collaborators. This work has helped inform WHO recommendations, strengthen global advocacy, and elevate the voices of families affected by HIV. Dr. Powis also serves on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Panel on Antiretroviral Therapy and Medical Management of Children Living with HIV.
