Shibani Mukerji, MD, PhD is an Associate Professor of Neurology at Mass General Brigham and Harvard Medical School. For more than 15 years, she has worked at the intersection of neurology and infectious diseases, with a sustained focus on improving the brain health of people living with HIV. Her research integrates clinical trials, electronic health record-based studies, and advanced neuroimaging to better understand and improve neurological and psychiatric outcomes in this population.

She is the principal investigator of the NIH-funded SOOTHE study, a Phase II clinical trial examining the effects of pregnenolone on brain function and depression in people living with HIV, and she co-leads the BEACON study, which investigates HIV-1 persistence in the central nervous system. Since 2026, she has served as Vice Chair of COPE, an ACTG international multicenter trial evaluating treatments for depression and mild neurocognitive disorder in people living with HIV, and she also serves as Vice Chair of the Clinical Research Subcommittee at the American Academy of Neurology. Dr. Mukerji trained at Yale University, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, and Harvard Medical School. She was a 2023 to 2025 Claflin Distinguished Scholar and a recipient of the Rappaport Fellowship. Her work is supported by the National Institutes of Health.
