A Girl Like Me (AGLM), a program of The Well Project, is a blog where women ( cis and trans The Well Project serves women across the gender spectrum. (More about gender identity)) can share their experiences and promote understanding of HIV. Millions of women around the globe are living with HIV, yet many feel they are alone in their disease and isolated in their day-to-day experiences. The goals of AGLM are to help normalize HIV; and to create a safe space for women living with HIV from around the world to speak out and share their experiences – with each other, and with those seeking a support community.

Changing Meds/Cambiando Medicamentos

UPDATE OF MEDS: As some know, I “once again” asked my doctor to change my medication regimen! I took Trizivir for 10 years. It was a good medicine but I noticed that my red blood cells were enlarged. I have always been adherent, but I asked my doctor to change me to Atripla almost...

A note to the medical “professional”

Recently in the last few months I have been visiting with medical professionals more than usual. In March I went in for serious pain to the OBGYN. Joyful Noise

I'm running through the streets of Soho in stilettos to catch the late train home, feeling like Cinderella as she left the ball just before the clock struck and she returned to rags. I had been to the Freedom Bar on Wardour Street and I certainly felt free! I had sung, danced and drank...

Celebration of Life

Yesterday I attended a Celebration of Life for a wonderful family friend named Lisa.  She was a beautiful, intelligent, funny and loving individual…the kind of person who could light up the room with her smile.  She passed away after a brave fight against brain cancer at the age of 33.

Rather than a funeral, she had...

Staying Clean in Narcotics Anonymous

My life is immersed in my search for freedom from active addiction through Narcotics Anonymous.   Being a drug addict is an additional stigma to being HIV positive. And while I haven’t found much support for HIV positive people in St. Louis, I have found support for my drug addiction.  It is hard for...

The Desolation of HIV

Being HIV+ is one thing, doing it as a single hetero female is quite another. I find myself alone, wondering if I will ever find that compatible, understanding human being who is either a saint or also HIV+ and alone. It’s not to say though, that I haven’t searched. There are websites out there...

Gendercide

KatieAdsila.I just heard a new word today that struck my heart in a sickening way: "Gendercide", "the deliberate effort to destroy traditions of gender fluidity…". That was a quote from an extremely insightful book I'm reading called Reclaiming Two-Spirits, Sexuality, Spiritual Renewal & Sovereignty In Native America by Gregory D....

Golden goal

Eliane (HIVstigmafighter) behind red heart)My lovely people, January is my favourite month. Not only because it is the beginning of a New year where we can start afresh, we also still have the whole year ahead to work on whatever we set our mind to.

Giving Up the Advantage

Bridgette Picou.I got taken advantage of recently in a major hurtful way and I can't seem to let it go. I already know my inability to do so is about the manifestation of (other) things that are out of control in my life. Still fucking stings though. I'm a Scorpio....
