Infant Feeding Decisions Among People Living with HIV

Study Purpose:

To understand what factors influence infant feeding decisions among postpartum people living with HIV in the US. The specific aims include

  • Aim 1: To describe infant feeding decision-making for those living with HIV at the intersection of race, gender, and class
  • Aim 2: To explore the systemic and institutional influences on infant feeding decision-making

Study Details:

  • Up to 50 participants will be interviewed individually for approximately 60 minutes.
  • Interviews will focus on personal experiences and perspectives on infant feeding, pregnancy, postpartum care, and support systems while living with HIV.
  • A total of 2 follow-up interviews may be needed.
  • Observations in pediatric, infectious disease, OB provider settings, as well as in community settings
  • Participation is voluntary, and participants may withdraw at any time.
  • A $50.00 e-card is provided after the initial interview, a $25 e-card after each follow-up interview, and a $25 e-card for each observation.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Age 18–45
  • Living with HIV
  • Given birth on or after January 2023
  • Residing in the US
  • Able to speak, read, and understand English
