On the Other Side of the Moon

Submitted on May 13, 2026 by KatieAdsila

As I think about what I want to be
It doesn't cross my mind, my HIV
I take my meds, do as my doctors say
And I'm virally suppressed, like it's gone away
I'm just living my life like anyone would
I'm watching my health just like I should
And I don't think about HIV
When it comes to my own health, but that's just me
But as an advocate in this field, I know the job's not done
There have been difficult truths learned, and hard battles won
But we still have so much farther to go
And the pace of progress seems so damn slow
But we never give up, because we know we can't
There are those who need us to protest and chant
So chant and fight, and fight we will
Until the cure comes in a pill
And this virus lies in the ashes of the past
As we walk through life with a joy that will last
The book of this disease will soon close
Perhaps it's memory, nobody knows
We'll see that day if we don't grow tired
And celebrate the disease has finally expired
So don't give up and don't grow weak
The answers are coming to all we seek
It's getting closer, it's coming soon
And I'll see you on the other side of the moon!!
