Intro – Alexandria

Submitted on Aug 13, 2026 by advocate-alex

My name is Alexandria Hicks. I'm a mother, a survivor, and a woman who has faced challenges that at times felt impossible to overcome. I want my readers to know that I'm not writing from a place of perfection—I'm writing from real life. Through my writing, I hope to share both the heartbreak and the hope that have shaped my journey.

I was diagnosed with HIV and I've experienced firsthand the stigma that still surrounds it. I've also faced loss, addiction, homelessness, family separation, and the difficult process of rebuilding my life. My goal is not just to tell my story, but to create space for honest conversations and remind others that they are not alone.

I am currently preparing to release my memoir, Just as My Everything Shattered, a deeply personal account of love, loss, motherhood, resilience, faith, and learning to live with HIV. Writing this book has been one of the most challenging and meaningful experiences of my life, and I hope its message reaches those who need it most.

Above all, I want readers to know that healing isn't a straight line. We all have chapters we'd rather forget, but those chapters don't define us. If my words help even one person feel seen, understood, or hopeful, then sharing my story is worth it.

Why Alexandria wants to be part of A Girl Like Me: I would like to join A Girl Like Me because I know how important it is for women living with HIV/AIDS to have a space where they can be honest, supported, and understood. After my own diagnosis, I experienced many emotions, including fear, shame, uncertainty, and the weight of the stigma that still surrounds HIV. Reading the stories of others helped me feel less alone, and I would love the opportunity to do the same for someone else.

Through my writing, I hope to share my experiences openly—the challenges, the setbacks, the lessons, and the hope I've found along the way. I believe that when women tell their stories, we help break down stigma, educate others, and remind one another that we are more than a diagnosis.

Joining this blog will allow me to connect with other women living with HIV/AIDS, contribute to an important community, and continue using my voice to encourage, support, and advocate for others.
